LUMENS vs LUX

Don't be mislead by claims of high lumen output !!!!

There are two way to measure light output:

1) LUMENS: The measure of light intensity at the illumination source.
Also referred to as Luminous Flux.

2) LUX: The measure of "down range" illumination intensity or
The number of Lumens (within a one square meter area) measured 10 meters away from the light source.

Therefore, LUX is the true indicator of illumination performance because it measures the combination of the following:

  • Down Range Lumen Output,
  • Light Collection Efficiency,
  • Projection Efficiency, and
  • Overall Performance of the Optics Train.

Remember, high lumen output does not mean high lux output.

PROJECTION vs REFLECTION

The latest improvement in LED Headlight Design is the adoption of Optical Projection Technology in place of Surface Reflection.

The new Optical Projection systems are significantly more efficient collecting and distributing light "down range". As such, projection systems can deliver higher LUX performance than reflection systems.

However, not all projections systems are equal. In order to unleash the full potential of optical projection systems, the design must leverage high quality optics along with very efficient optics trains.

This is where AutoCraft and our Real-Lux Headlights separate themselves from the competition. We employ world-class optics designers, with extensive optics design experience, to develop

LED headlights with high quality optical lenses that optimizes

LUX output and produce illumination patterns that have:

  • A shape "cut-line" to reduce the light to on-coming traffic
  • A light pattern that reduces shadowing and dark "holes", &
  • A wide illumination field that light-up the sides of the road.
